Rania Anaelle Zaguir is a Lebanese writer and publisher of children books. Several of her books have been translated into 20 different languages, including Italian, German, Korean, Spanish, French, Kurdish, and Polish.
Zaguir’s books have earned her numerous awards. Lately, her book Haltabees Haltabees earned the Berlin International Literature Festival Book Award (The Extraordinary Book 2015). She has also won the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for the Dialogue Between Cultures Award (2010), as well as Assabil (Friends of Public Libraries) 2009 Annual Award for Children’s Literature granted to her in recognition of her book “Sisi Malakit Talbas Kharofan wa Dodatayn” (Al Khayyat Al Saghir Publishing House - The Little Tailor). This book has been translated into Italian and published by Serendapita, while “Lamma Balatet el Baher” has been translated into Korean and “Man Lahasa Karna il Booza” into 19 languages and is published by Edition Orient – Berlin.
She is also the co-founder and curator of the International biannual children’s literature conference known as: What a Story!
In 2013, She established a national book charity: Libraries of Hope.
In 2007, Zaguir founded Al Khayyat Al Saghir Publishing House which devotes special attention to picture books of engaging, quality literary material that aim to develop the Arab child’s artistic and social awareness.
Her work has been tailored to help young Arab readers build a new understanding of their own childhood by focusing on their own inner worlds, and by providing a simplified explanation for these worlds which allows them to have a better notion of the vast changes occurring all around them.
Zaguir’s new and unique writing style and technique is very different from the usual ones found in traditional children books, which for years have focused upon education without providing the right keys to decipher complicated codes of modern life. She speaks to the children with a smart, thoughtful language that links them to the present. For this reason, she works on getting every child to become acquainted with a variety of human cultures in a conscious and careful manner. Ms. Zaguir wants children to be able to immerse themselves in foreign cultures via all kinds of media such as books, phone Applications, TV programs and movies without being shocked, overwhelmed, and otherwise submissively or negatively affected. Hence, her ultimate role consists in helping children build a personal cultural background, one in which they can operate selectively when receiving data.
She also been acclaimed as a pioneer in introducing more indigenous and imaginative storybooks which enhance the child’s self-confidence and develop his/her personality. In addition, her stories make children feel free, untied, receptive, and able to make good decisions, thereby giving them the capability of addressing life problems, now and in the future. One glance at her books and the difference between a traditional writing technique that superficially addresses children’s problems, and Zaguir’s method, which gets at the heart of their inner worlds, is immediately apparent.
Finally, Rania Anaelle Zaguir adopts the latest techniques of illustration on par with the best in the international market so as to illuminate the children’s world with vibrant colors, to develop their artistic perceptions, and to offer them a dynamic, joyful and shining inner environment.

تهدف كتابتها إلى خلق وعي جديد لدى الطفل العربي بذاته، عبر اضاءة عوالمه الداخلية وتبصيره بها على نحو مبسط، كي يصبح بمقدوره استيعاب التطورات السريعة الدائرة حوله، في العالم الخارجي. تعتمد على أسلوب مختلف عن السائد في قصص الاطفال التقليدية، فتحض على التربية مع تسليح الطفل بمفاتيح لفك الشيفرات المعقدة لنمط الحياة الجديدة
تخاطب الطفل بلغة ذكية، تربطه بالعصر، فتعمل على تقريبه من أجواء الثقافات الانسانية على نحو مدروس، من أجل أن يتمكن من استقبال الثقافات الوافدة إليه من الخارج (عبر الكتب وبرامج التلفزيون وافلام السينما) من دون ان تحدث لديه صدمة أو انبهار أو استسلام أو أي تأثير سلبي آخر. إن القاعدة الاساسية لديها هي مساعدة الطفل على تكوين تراكم معرفي شخصي يخوله التلقي ثم الإنتقاء بوعي
تعمل أيضاً على خلق حس اجتماعي من أجل نقد الطرق التي تقدم للطفل قصة باهتة، لا تثير المشاعر. هي تريد من أجله قصة يستحقها بالفعل، تكون مبتكرة، تزيد من ثقته بنفسه، تحسسه بأنه حر، قادر على التعلم الذاتي وإبداء الرأي بما يجعله جاهزاً لمواجهة الحياة الآن وفي المستقبل. ندرك هنا الفرق بين كتابة قديمة تخاطب الطفل من الخارج، وكتابة جديدة تتوجه نحو عوالمه الخاصة: إنها الكتابة المطلوبة للطفل العربي لكي لا نحرمه من الانفتاح على فضاءات اوسع
أخيراً، هي تحرص على ان تكون تقنيات الرسم في كتبها حديثة جدا، ذات مقاييس دولية، تلّون عالم الطفل، وتدرّب حواسه اللونية، وتضعه في اجواء من الدينامية الذاتية الفرحة والمشرقة
